This is the first in a series of ‘Big Band style’ charts written specifically for concert band. Rather than provide extra ‘concert band instrument’ parts for a big band arrangement (which tends to affect balance when used with a full concert band), these are intended to be played with a full standard concert band. String Bass is recommended, but alternative bass reinforcement parts can cover the bass part if required.
Written in a laid back ‘Basie’ style, this swing chart has very reasonable ranges with plenty of rhythmic interest to help develop ‘tight’ playing. Solo space for trumpet (written solo), and an ‘a Capella’ band section provide lots of variety. “Cory” is a pet long-billed corella, a species of cockatoo found in south-east Australia.
